The Arcana / Three of Cups

FAQ — Three of Cups

Minor — Cups

Three of Cups

Three feminine presences surround a luminous figure that is emerging, and at the centre rests the Book — foundation of the ritual. The Three of Cups is the circulation of the gift: what the heart receives asks to be passed on.

Symbolic reading

The three presences can be read as three women — or as three aspects of one: earthly, emotional and spiritual, gathered around what is being born. The red rose and the white water lily face one another: incarnation and purity, blood and water, held together without conflict. The Book is not consulted: placed at the centre, it establishes the foundation — some forms of knowledge act through their mere presence. The joy of this card is not the intoxication of celebration: it is the joy of a gift that circulates and, by circulating, grows.

Reversed reading

The circle comes apart: forced joy, a gift turning into dependency, a celebration that excludes — or one of the three aspects taking up all the space.
