FAQ — Three of Cups

What does the Three of Cups mean in a reading?

The circulation of the gift: what the heart receives asks to be passed on, and that circulation itself makes joy grow.

What is the central tension of this card?

Between plurality and unity: the three presences can be read as three distinct women or as three aspects of one — the card does not decide.

What do the red rose and white water lily placed opposite each other mean?

Incarnation and purity, blood and water, held together without fighting one another.

Why is the Book placed at the centre rather than consulted?

It establishes the ritual through its mere presence: some forms of knowledge act without being read.

What has changed since the Two?

The solitary inner encounter of the Two opens here into circulation: what has been recognised within oneself begins to pass among several presences, in joy.

Does the Book open during this ritual?

No. It remains closed at the centre of the circle — in accordance with the invariant rule, it establishes the foundation through its presence, but opens only with the Queen.

What does the reversed Three of Cups mean?

The circle comes apart: forced joy, a gift turning into dependency, a celebration that excludes — or one of the three aspects taking up all the space.
