FAQ — Four of Cups

Minor — Cups

Four of Cups

Withdrawal: seated and closed off, the heroine gives no glance either to the three cups floating before her on their water lilies, or to the fourth emerging from a great luminous lotus. The Four of Cups is the weariness of the heart — when even offered gifts seem far away.

Symbolic reading

After the momentum of the first three cards comes the break: the heart has its low tides too. Where tradition lowers the fourth cup from a cloud, the DAL makes it rise from a lotus: revelation does not fall from the sky, it rises from the depths — it waits within oneself, precisely where one refuses to look. The Book is neglected, at a distance: she has moved away both from the gifts offered and from the knowledge that guided her. Nothing in the card condemns her: withdrawal is part of the path. But the lotus remains open, and its light does not go out.

Reversed reading

The movement of awakening: the gaze returns to the lotus, the offer is finally seen — or withdrawal settles into habit, weariness becoming a dwelling place.
