The Arcana / Six of Cups

FAQ — Six of Cups

Minor — Cups

Six of Cups

On a stone islet, a woman who holds inherited knowledge offers a cup to the heroine, who has become a novice before her. The Book she holds against her heart. The Six of Cups is the beginning of a handover: part of the knowledge changes hands — and the continuation of the lineage is designated.

Symbolic reading

The gesture is precise: a cup, not the Book — at the Six, the elder passes on only a part, enough for the novice to begin her own path; the whole will come when she is ready to take her place. The Book against the heart tells us where this gift speaks from: from knowledge embodied, cherished, ready to be passed on. The stone islet provides the stability every rite requires; the ruins in the distance carry memory — transmission always comes from a history. Tradition sees nostalgia for childhood here; the DAL turns it towards the future: the past is not regretted, it is bequeathed.

Reversed reading

The handover falters: knowledge withheld, an heiress who refuses or receives without understanding its measure — or nostalgia freezing what was meant to circulate.
