The Arcana / Three of Wands

FAQ — Three of Wands

Minor — Wands

Three of Wands

The vineyard is producing: three gnarled stakes bear ripe bunches of grapes, a cart of barrels sets off towards the village, and the man contemplates his work in the evening light. The Three of Wands is investment bearing the fruits of work accomplished.

Symbolic reading

The Book is now tucked under his arm — knowledge incorporated, second nature: one no longer consults what one has become. The gnarled stakes speak of time passed: nothing here grew quickly, and the ripe grapes are years before they are fruit. The trade road opens the card towards the distance — what has been brought to maturity goes out to meet the world, and the village on the horizon reminds us that no estate prospers alone. The end-of-day light is not an ending: it is the reward of a full day's work.

Reversed reading

Expansion falters: a harvest delayed, exchanges blocked — or the owner's pride mistaking his estate for the whole world.
