Major Arcana
The Pope
Facing two disciples, The Pope teaches — and at his feet, the great Book stands upright, open, turned towards those who listen. He is transmission: knowledge no longer kept but given, together with its keys.
Symbolic reading
The upright Book bears two crossed keys, one gold and the other silver: knowledge no longer waits for the threshold to be forced; it offers what is needed to open it. Where The High Priestess kept watch in the night, The Pope teaches in broad daylight, before a landscape of sunlit mountains — what was studied in silence is now spoken aloud. A red ribbon links the two columns, passing behind the throne: teaching creates a bond, tying together what it passes through. Three steps lead up to the throne — one does not receive everything at once; one climbs. His left hand, gloved in blue, nevertheless holds something back: even in giving, something remains that can only be transmitted through experience. On the garments of the two disciples, a Y-shaped motif — soon, each will face their own fork in the road.
Reversed reading
Transmission goes awry: rigid dogma, a voice of authority that no longer listens, teaching recited without being lived. Or its symmetrical refusal — no longer willing to learn from anyone.
