The Wanderer
The Wanderer walks at night, with no stage number and no map of the sky: above him, the stars form no known constellation. He is pure momentum — the departure that precedes all knowledge, trust placed in the path rather than the plan.
Symbolic reading
Everything in the image speaks of movement unaware of itself: his gaze turned to the right, towards what is to come; the bell at the tip of his hood, behind him, ringing with every step without his hearing it; the red cat that accompanies or urges him on. The Book is there, hanging outside his satchel — he does not read it, he does not even know he carries it, yet the Book shines towards whoever looks at the card: the treasure travels before it is recognised. The immense tree to his left roots the scene in a memory of the world that he crosses without consulting it. The Wanderer is not unconsciousness: he is total openness, the state before choices are made.
Reversed reading
The momentum goes awry: flight rather than departure, wandering that goes round in circles, or conversely a refusal to leave when everything calls for movement. The bell rings, but no one listens — not even him.
