Major Arcana
The High Priestess
A queen from afar stands at the threshold of a temple, a great Book open on her lap. She knows — but she does not tell everything. The High Priestess is knowledge that must be earned: study, silence, the patience of a veil that cannot be lifted by force.
Symbolic reading
Between the two columns of the Temple — the dark and the light, marked with their letters — she sits exactly on the boundary, where opposites face one another. The Book, closed with The Juggler, opens here for the first time: but what it shows remains partly veiled, like the light of the sanctuary filtered through her double veil, one heavy and ornate, the other translucent and star-strewn. Her right hand holds back more than it invites: knowledge is passed on to those who cross the threshold, not to those who demand it. Beneath her feet, a crescent moon is engraved in the stone — she stands upon the world of night, the world of intuition and memory. Her grave face refuses nothing: it waits for the right question.
Reversed reading
The veil becomes a wall: a secret kept too long, knowledge that sterilises instead of nourishing, intuition one refuses to hear. Or the opposite haste — trying to tear away what needed time to mature.
