FAQ — Knight of Cups
What does the Knight of Cups mean in a reading?
The messenger of the heart: carrying an emotion without spilling it, with care rather than conquest.
What is the central tension of this card?
Between slowness and mission: her movement is peaceful, but she carries a message that must arrive intact — the only conquest of Cups is that of right measure.
What does her winged helmet mean?
It bridges water and air: emotion becoming speech, feeling learning to travel.
Why are fish engraved on her armour?
They overturn the very idea of protection: she does not defend herself against her emotions, she wears them as her heraldry.
What is the role of this card in the arc of the suit?
The second age of the court of Cups: the desert crossed by a river measures the distance travelled since the wild waters of the numerals — emotion no longer overwhelms, it has become precious because it is rare.
Is the Book open with the Knight?
No. It travels closed at the saddle — in accordance with the invariant rule, knowledge accompanies her mission without yet opening; that will come with the Queen.
What does the reversed Knight of Cups mean?
The message becomes troubled: a promise not kept, sentimentality drowning speech, an ideal pursued while losing sight of the river — or the cup finally delivered to the one who was waiting for it.
