The Arcana / Queen of Swords

FAQ — Queen of Swords

Minor — Swords

Queen of Swords

She alone holds the key — and on her lap, for the first time in the entire suit, the Book is open. The Queen of Swords is lucidity: the mind that has paid the price of seeing clearly, and speaks the truth.

Symbolic reading

The entire suit was converging towards this gesture: the Book, closed from Ace to Ten — hidden, thrown down, taken up again — finally opens in her hands, and she was the one who held the key. Her throne of pure crystal, crossed by scrolls of air, bears no weapon: at this degree of mastery, the mind no longer needs a blade. On the armrests, two engraved magpies — the former guides have become the very structure of the seat: one no longer follows them, one rests upon them. And in the clouds, two green leaves bearing their roots: life resumes even in the sky of the intellect. The Queen does not console, she illuminates — her truth is a kindness that does not lie.

Reversed reading

Lucidity turns cold: cutting judgement, irony that wounds, the key kept for oneself. The open Book serves only to prove oneself right.
