FAQ — Queen of Pentacles
What does the Queen of Pentacles mean in a reading?
The sovereign of the living: Earth understood, at last readable.
Why does the Book finally open on her lap, for the first time in the entire suit?
This is the Queen's function in every suit of the DAL, and nowhere has the wait been longer: for twelve cards, Earth kept its Book sealed, because matter reveals itself only through the wear of time — an entire life was needed to earn the first page.
What does her profile turned to the left mean?
Introspection: she no longer watches over the world, she understands it.
How does the Queen visually answer the Knight of Pentacles?
Through the same greens, reds and golds; his forward motion is answered by her meditative stillness — the Knight's effort has become, in her, enjoyment of the fruits of the earth.
What does the hare at her feet represent?
Both ends of the Earth element: fertility and vigilance — that which gives life remains on guard.
What does the reversed Queen of Pentacles mean?
Understanding folds in on itself: comfort that lulls, nature possessed rather than inhabited, an open page that is never turned — or the pentacle finally released for the hand reaching out.
What function does the Queen occupy in the DAL's elemental grid of the court cards?
The Water function — receptivity, inner understanding — applied to the element of Earth: understanding matter from within rather than producing or protecting it.
What is this card's role in the arc of the Pentacles suit?
It marks the first of the only two moments when the Book opens in Pentacles — an opening the King will carry further still, all the way to the ground.
