FAQ — Judgement

What does Judgement mean in a one-card reading?

Short answer (validated yes/no table): YES, I am going to announce something important to you. Another source adds a nuance: the answer may be YES and NO at the same time, leaving the reader alone to judge.

What does Judgement represent in a broader sense?

A call comes from the sky, but neither a trumpet nor an angel announces it — it is a Book. Its pages, wide open, carry the voice; two crosses float there, one on each side, like two languages of the same call. This card does not speak of the dead rising: it addresses you, here and now.

What is the central question posed by this card?

The DAL Judgement shifts the question usually asked of this card. It is no longer “who will be saved?” but “what in me is ready to respond?”. The Book judges no one from outside: it calls, and what rises in response to that call is already within you.

Why has the angel’s trumpet become a Book?

The entire body of the instrument follows the fold of the pages; the angel holds one page in each hand. This choice is not an arbitrary association: the foundational text of Revelation already literally links the opening of a Book — the Book of Life — with the moment of Judgement, an element that Tarot iconography lost along the way.

What do the two crosses carried by the Book-trumpet represent?

Two crosses, one on each side, like two languages of the same call: they literally embody the DAL principle of holding the Tarot de Marseille and the Rider-Waite-Smith together through the same Book, without merging them into a third form.

Why do we see our own joined hands in the foreground of the card?

The first-person framing carries the card’s shift in meaning all the way through: you do not observe this scene, you live it. They are your hands, not those of a character, joined amid a crowd turned towards the sky.

Is Judgement a positive or negative card?

A favourable card, oriented towards awakening and responding to an inner call: an honest reckoning, rebirth, a voice one finally chooses to answer.

What does Judgement mean reversed?

The call resounds, but you look away. It is the refusal to hear what is asking to change — the old excuse that you were not ready, the reckoning put off, the inner voice drowned in noise so that you do not have to answer it. Nothing is lost: the call does not stop; it is the ear that closes.

Does this first-person framing appear elsewhere in the deck?

Yes, as a discreet echo: this signature is already present in several numbered cards of the Minor Arcana — a visual thread the Guide leaves you to rediscover throughout the deck rather than identifying explicitly.
